A Little Color on a Gray and Dreary Weekend

I’ve doctored this photo a bit to emphasize the point that this weekend has been mostly gray in a number of ways except for the Juncos which have been visiting our back yard in large numbers.

This winter we’ve had to take in our feeder several times because of sick birds. Today, unfortunately, we had two sick birds visit our deck.

This Pine Siskin looks like he’s saying “OK, I’m ready. Please take me home.” We’ve noticed him around the deck for a couple of days now and I don’t expect him to last much longer. According to this article from Cornell, Pine Siskin’s seem to be especially susceptible to the Salmonellosis virus. And we’ve seen several this year.

The second sick bird was this Lesser Goldfinch. They are such pretty birds. It’s so frunstrating to know there is nothing we can do for these birds except wait and let nature take its course.

Cheers – DJD
