Bird Watchers are Made not Born

“Hey Grandpa, what kind of bird is that and why does it look sad?”

That’s the sort of question I’m hoping to hear from my granddaughter in a few years (or sooner the way she is growing). But for now I can only imagine what she’s thinking when she looks out the window at the birds on the deck or looks up at me with those beautiful blue eyes.

It’s going to be so much fun for Jody and me to share our love for the birds in our back yard with her. And hopefully she will enjoy them as much as we do.

But there will be hard lessons too, like the fact that this little bird is sick and going to die soon. So we will just take it a step at a time, and enjoy learning to be the best grandparents we can be.

Cheers – DJD
