Wow! Another week and another new bird visiting our back yard. What a treat.

Today we had a pair of Western Tanagers stop by for awhile. It was hard to get a good picture because, as Cornell’s behavior description says, they spent their time moving slowly and deliberately through the foliage hunting for insects. And, as you can see, the foliage is finally getting full on our Maple trees.

The other day I started wondering why we’re seeing so may new birds this year. I’d like to think it’s because of something we’ve done. I’d like to think the word is being spread throughout the local bird community that our back yard is the place to be. I’d like to think we show the birds true hospitality.

We do keep our feeders filled with Premium Sunflower Mix and we maintain a strict “No Cats on the Deck” policy, but I think hospitality goes much deeper than that.

True hospitality come from the heart of the host. And I think all the birds who come to our back yard sense the heart that Jody has for them. So that’s the thing that keeps them coming back and bringing their friends.

Cheers – DJD
