What Day is It?

It’s Mothers Day of course. We all know that, but this Mourning Dove looks like she’s not so sure.

As I mentioned last week, we’ve had a change-of-guard of sorts at our bird feeders this Spring and this girl is one of the new birds who has been spending a lot of time in our back yard lately. Even when you don’t see her on the deck, you know if she’s around because you can hear her distinctive call.

Mothers Day is not for the birds. It’s for us humans. A special day set aside to recognize all the love and care our mothers poured into us even when we were being maybe not so lovable (e.g. our teenage years).

It’s a chance for us to say “thank you” for the sacrifices made and the wisdom imparted. It’s a day you don’t fully understand until you’ve raised children of your own.

So let me say “Happy Mothers Day!” to all mothers who might read this. You are greatly appreciated.

Cheers – DJD
