Happy 4th of July

It’s the 4th of July in our back yard and this year I think it’s going to be quite subdued. In fact, it was eerily quiet yesterday, and quiet again today. I do expect our share of illegal firework going off in the neighborhood tonight but maybe not.

Many flowers are in full bloom on our deck and in our yard now. Some of the colors are so knock-your-eyes-out intense it’s amazing. The blue Lobelias in this photo have sort of a neon glow to the eye and the red Geraniums look over-saturated in the photo but they really are that red.

Just like it’s hard to capture the true intensity of these colors in a photograph, it’s also hard to fully appreciate the courage and conviction our founding fathers had and sacrifices they were willing to make in order to secure our independence.

On this day of celebration, let’s not take for granted all the blessings we have in this country. Happy Birthday America!

Cheers – DJD
